Two returning players from last season’s roster have been granted a tryout following their recovery from injury. Both Timofei Kouzmine (Atlanta, GA) and Jared Topf (Montclair, NJ) will have the opportunity to earn a roster spot when healthy in the coming months.
Over 60 players came out to Tennity Ice Pavilion to try out for a spot on the 2023-24 Orange roster. Head Coach Chris Timmons discussed the difficulty of assembling this year’s roster - a problem he considers a good one to have.
“It was great to see such a large turnout for tryouts this year. The numbers have doubled over the last few seasons and with that much skill on the ice it makes the sessions very competitive. Decisions were tough, but these decisions come with the realization that prospective players are starting to acknowledge the growth of what we are trying to build here and want to be a part of it. I’m excited to see what we can do this season with this group.”
Timmons already seems to be impressed with his new group after week 1 of training camp.
"The first few practices have went well. With the amount of skill and depth, we have been mixing guys around to see what quick chemistry could generate along with establishing a high level of compete and energy in our practices. I think the guys are excited to get going in the next couple of weeks as we start to form lines and dive deep into our systems, strategies, and build our identity of what kind of team we want to be going forward. One goal that is consistent for our group is to be the hardest team we play all season during practice.”
Assistant Captain, Connor Chesner, is also excited about the new group.
"I really like the group of guys we have this year. We have a lot of talent up and down the roster. I have high expectations for what this team can be."
