DIRECTORS

BRIDGET ESSING

Director of Operations

Biography:

A sophomore from Trumbull, CT, Bridget stands as our Director of Operations. Here at SU she is double majoring in Biology and Forensic Science while also minoring in Arabic. Essing hopes to one day be an FBI Agent or work in a similar field. She’s also a member of the University Honors Program, the Honors Advisory Board, the TriBeta Biology Honors Society, and the Women’s Club Lacrosse team.


Experience:

She grew up around hockey with her two little brothers who are diehard fans and players. Last year Bridget was an Operations and Analytics intern and is now “excited to lead our team to even bigger and better things!”

Fun Fact:

She went skydiving this past summer for the first time ever!

MAGGY HAGGERTY

Director of Communications

Biography:

From Pawtucket, Rhode Island Maggy is a junior here at Syracuse. She is a double major between Sport Management and Writing, with a minor in Public Communication Studies. Her dream job is to one day be a Rinkside Reporter for NESN. 


Experience:

This is her third year helping out with communications for SUMH. Maggy has also worked as a  digital media intern for US Squash and is a freelance writer covering the NFL. She has also participated in a project between Syracuse University, FOX Sports, and MLB. This season she's really looking forward to branch out on new ideas for the team.


Fun Fact:

Maggy travels to watch her favorite team play in different arenas!

 

OPERATIONS AND ANALYTICS

JULIANA DICENSO

Operations and Analytics Coordinator

Biography:

Juliana is from East Greenwich, Rhode Island and is studying Sport Management here at SU. As a freshman, so far Jules is involved in WISE, SPM Club, and plays for the Club Field Hockey team. Her dream job is to work in the front office of an NHL team because of her interest in management and how things run behind the scenes. 


Experience:

Hockey is her favorite sport so she looks forward to working in this environment and gaining more experience. In the past she has interned with an NHL agent and occasionally helped out with her high school hockey team.


Fun Fact:

Juliana loves snowboarding and used to do it competitively!

BEN GANSENBERG

Operations and Analytics Coordinator

Biography:
Ben is a freshman from Marblehead, Massachusetts. Here at SU he is studying Sport Analytics within the Falk School of Sport and Human Dynamics. His dream job is to be a General Manager of a professional team, but he’s also okay with working within Team Operations or Player Personnel. 

Experience:
Although he doesn’t have much professional experience, Ben has done statistics and data tracking on his own while also playing hockey. On campus he has joined the Hockey Analytics Club, Football Analytics Club, Basketball Analytics Club, Baseball SABR Club, and Best Buddies. This season he’s looking forward to his first season working with the team.

Fun Fact:
Ben loves to talk and loves sports, so if you talk about sports with him, he will like you!

 

SOCIAL MEDIA

RACHEL TIEMAN

Social Media Coordinator

Biography:
Rachel is a sophomore from Randolph, New Jersey. On campus she is an Advertising major in the Newhouse School of Communications. One day she hopes to be a Creative Director.

Experience:
On campus she is on the PR team for University girl and also a member of TNH. Rachel has been a New York Rangers fan since the day she was born and is extremely excited to combine her creative mindset with sports while running social media for SUMH. 

Fun Fact:
Rachel helped start the girls' hockey team at her high school!

MATT BEDER

Social Media Coordinator

Biography:

Matt is a freshman from Andover, Massachusetts studying Marketing in the Whitman School of Management. In the future he would like to work within marketing that’s related to hockey


Experience:

In high school Matt coached a youth hockey team. He looks forward to pursuing his passion (hockey) while also bettering his business education and creating the best content possible. He’s also excited to be around to rink and working with people who have a similar passion as himself. 


Fun Fact:

He’s a big football fan and loves the Patriots!

 

PROMOTIONS

SOFIA ROSSI

Promotional Staff 

Biography:

Sofia is a sophomore from South Salem, New York majoring in Citizenship and Civic Engagement and Policy Studies. She also has a minor in Vocal Studies. She is a part of Theta, Student Association, Crouse Chorale, and interns at the Vera House and the Boys and Girls Club of Syracuse. Her goal is to work at the Education Trust as a K-12 Policy Analyst


Experience:

Last season Rossi was one of our Promotional staff members. Also, after she tore her ACL in high school and couldn’t play soccer anymore she became the Head Manager of her high school hockey team. 


Fun Fact:

Sofia was on Sesame Street when she was in Kindergarten!

KATE ELIOU

Promotional Staff

Biography:

Kate is a junior Sport Management major and Sport Event Management minor from Queens, NY. Her dream job is to be an Event Coordinator/Venue Ops Manager for a professional hockey team. Eliou wants to be a part of the team that creates the live events- that she herself loved- for other fans. On campus, she is also apart of WISE and Spot Management Club. 


Experience:

Hockey brought me closer to my family and helped me make a lot of new friends so besides being really entertaining, it gave me a community. This season she looks forward to gaining “experience in the sport [she] wants to work in and expand that community.” 

Fun Fact:

Kate has seen her favorite band play in 3, soon to be 4, states!

MORGAN SALOMON

Promotional Staff

Biography:

Morgan is from White Plains, New York. She is a sophomore studying Communications and Rhetorical Studies. In the future she would like to work in outreach. 


Experience:

Growing up Morgan had always found hockey exciting and she’s looking to kickstart her experience by joining the excitement!


Fun Fact:

Her dad is the New York Rangers team dentist!  

 

BEAT WRITING

OWEN SIENKO

Senior Beat Reporter

Biography:

Owen is a sophomore Broadcast Digital Journalism student here at SU. He is from Langhorne, PA and is a massive hockey fan. Sienko’s dream goal is to be a live broadcast director or executive producer at NBCSN Philadelphia covering the Philadelphia Flyers. On campus he is also a part of Citrus TV.


Experience:

Last year Owen was our Junior Beat Writer. He has also been a Panelist for the “Reality” section of the Bucks County Courier Times. This year with the team he’s excited to see what great things the team will accomplish with the development of our players.


Fun Fact:

He is a diehard Flyers fan!

ISABELLA APPLE

Junior Beat Reporter

Biography:
Bella is a sophomore Broadcast and Digital Journalism major in Newhouse. From Long Island, New York she has always wanted to be a sideline reporter and have the opportunity to bring a fan to the field/rink mid-game with interviewing coaches and players in the heat of competition.

Experience:
This past summer Bella worked at FNTSY Sports Network. On campus, she is also a part of the ACC Network, does photography, and has joined the sports analytics club. Also, growing up Bella was a diehard Pittsburgh Penguins fan and is really excited to start writing for the team.

Fun Fact:
Besides religiously watching football and hockey, Bella watches every USA Gymnastics competition leading up to the Olympics and Simone Biles is her favorite athlete!

RYAN NELSON

Junior Beat Reporter

Biography:

Ryan is a freshman from Chicago, Illinois majoring in Broadcast and Digital Journalism in the Newhouse School of Communications. One day he hopes to be a Play-by-Play Broadcaster for the Chicago Blackhawks as he grew up listening to their announcers and always idolized what they did and how they did it. 


Experience:

In high school Ryan was a writer for his high school newspaper. At Syracuse he is also a part of CitrusTV, WAER, and the Football Analytics Club. He likes hockey because of its fast-paced nature and the ability of the players and fans to keep up with the insanity and complexity of what happens on the ice. This season, he is looking forward to working with the team and diving right into being a Syracuse Men’s Hockey fan.


Fun Fact:

He personally owns over 10,000 baseball cards!

 

VIDEO AND MEDIA

WILL DOWLER

Senior Video and Media Producer

Biography:
Will is a sophomore Film Major here at Syracuse University. From Madison, Connecticut he one day hopes to start his own video production company primarily focused on documentaries and short promotional films, which are his favorites. 

Experience:
Currently, Dowler is helping direct a documentary series about the team. He is also a content manager for LFG Sports, a startup that a few SU students started last spring. Will loves the intensity and speed of hockey and he is looking forward to another great season with the team. 

Fun fact:
He can understand Spanish really well, but can hardly speak it.

BEN CHAIRNOFF

Junior Video and Media Producer

Biography:

Ben is a sophomore from West Windsor, New Jersey. He is a Television, Radio, and Film major within the Newhouse School of Communications. On campus, he is also a part of Z89. One day he hopes to be a film editor because he “loves the process of editing and putting things together.” 



Experience:

Chairnoff volunteered with Hiscock Legal Aid editing promotional videos for them. He has also edited a promotional video for Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. With SUMH he’s looking forward to getting experience in editing and further learning more of the craft.  

Fun Fact:

He co-wrote, co-directed, and co-edited a feature-length film over the summer!

SHANE MCCLOSKEY

Junior Video and Media Producer

Biography:
Shane is a freshman from Barrington, Illinois. Here at SU he is majoring in Television/Radio/Film in the Newhouse School of Communications. On campus, he is also a part of the Spikeball Club. One day, he hopes to be a film director or a producer because of his love of movies.

Experience:
Back in High School Shane ran his hockey team’s Instagram page and created all their promotional videos to get fans out to the games. He also played hockey for 15 years himself and loves the family/friendship atmosphere the sport offers. This year he is looking forward to a very successful season doing what he loves, for the sport he loves. 

Fun Fact:
Shane loves to skydive!

 

BROADCAST

CORY BERBERIAN

Broadcast Crew Member

Biography:

Cory is from Montville, New Jersey and is a junior Broadcast Digital Journalism. He is also minoring in Economics. On campus, Cory is a part of WAER, WJPZ, and the ACC Network. His dream job is to be an NHL Broadcaster and that has always been his end goal.


Experience:

Back in high school, Cory was a broadcaster for his high school hockey team. He is going into his third season with SUMH. This season he’s looking forward to “seeing another championship.” 


Fun Fact: 

He has been on SportsCenter and has an extremely cute poodle named Gizmo!

DOUGLAS LATTUCA

Broadcast Crew Member

Biography:

Douglas is a freshman here at SU studying Broadcast and Digital Journalism from Dix Hills, Long Island, New York. He has joined Citrus TV, WAER Radio, Z89, and Hillel. One day Lattuca would love to be a play-by-play announcer for the New York Rangers as he has been attending their games since he was five. “I BLEED BLUE.... and now I bleed orange!”  


Experience:

In high school, Douglas was a part of West TV, West Radio, and The Roundup which included live broadcasting, play-by-play announcing, podcasting, and writing/editing articles. With SU hockey he’s  “excited to start gaining experience and building relationships with both the staff and players” and looks forward to taking advantage of this great opportunity.  


Fun Fact:

His sports teams are the New York Rangers, New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New York Knicks!

FRANKIE VERNOUSKI

Broadcast Crew Member

Biography:

Frankie is a junior from Hershey, Pennsylvania. He is majoring in Broadcast and Digital Journalism in the Newhouse School of Communications and History in the College of Arts and Sciences. One day he just hopes to broadcast sports daily as that is his dream job. 


Experience:

Alongside doing some games for SUMH in the past, he has also broadcasted at SU for Z89 and WAER for football, women’s basketball, and men’s and women’s lacrosse. Frankie also spent 2019 summer in Cape Cod broadcasting daily for the Cape Cod Baseball League. 


Fun Fact:

He grew up going to Hershey Bears games—the AHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals. They always draw the best crowds in the AHL, and that began his love for the sport!
