Syracuse to Host Salmon River Squirts at Youth Hockey Day

By Owen Sienko

Syracuse, N.Y. -- The Syracuse University Men’s Club Ice Hockey team will continue its tradition of Youth Hockey Day by hosting the Salmon River squirts at the Tennity Ice Pavilion on Saturday, December 7.

The youth team will be invited to join the Orange on the ice for starting lineup announcements and the National Anthem before their final game of the semester -- an ESCHL tilt against the University of Rhode Island Rams.

Last season, the Orange hosted Salmon River in early February after visiting their home rink in Pulaski, New York.  Syracuse players attended one of the youth team’s practices and took on coaching roles on the ice before playing with them in a scrimmage.

Junior forward Lucas Prestamo says the trip to Upstate New York was one he will never forget.

“It was a really humbling experience being able to go to Salmon River and help out,” Prestamo recalled.  “The community, not just the players, shared how thankful they were for our help on the ice.”

Although unable to make it up to Salmon River this season so far, the Orange are still looking forward to Saturday’s visit and to working with the squirt, peewee, and bantam programs in the future.
