Orange to Host Syracuse Blazers AA for Youth Hockey Day

Syracuse, N.Y. -- The Syracuse University Men’s Club Ice Hockey Team will be joined by the Syracuse Blazers AA youth team for the club’s second Youth Hockey Day celebration of the season on Sunday, January 12.

The Blazers youth team will attend the club’s first game back at the Tennity Ice Pavilion since returning from winter break. Much like in December’s Youth Hockey Day featuring the Salmon River squirts earlier this season, the Blazers will be invited onto the ice for the national anthem before the puck drops against the University at Buffalo Bulls.

The Orange also plan to return the favor to the youth team by visiting them at their practice on Monday, January 13. Junior forward Lucas Prestamo visited the Salmon River squirts with his teammates last season. He said the team always looks forward to special moments like these.

Freshman defenseman Mackenzie Murphy experienced his first Youth Hockey Day in December, and he said he is looking forward to meeting more young players this time around.

“I’m excited to skate with them,” Murphy said. “I didn’t get to interact with them that much at the last game, so I’m looking forward to getting on the ice with them again.”

Promotions Manager Sofia Rossi, who will be coordinating this year’s youth hockey celebration, said the event is about more than just community outreach.

“These connections foster an environment focused on the drive to pursue your passions -- a quality that I think is unique to the Syracuse hockey community,” Rossi said.
